Five Signs Your Windows Need to Be Replaced

Windows Replacement

Everything gets older, and that includes our homes. While yes, maintaining your property can extend the life of, well, pretty much everything, there’s only so much you can do. Time and a little trickle of water wore away the earth, and now we have the Grand Canyon.

There’s nothing you can do that will completely replace the need to update and repair your home. The only thing you can do is know the signs when it’s time to re-invest, and reap the rewards.

Five Signs Your Windows Need to Be Replaced

With windows, the good news is that all you need to do is watch out for these top five signs:

1. You Feel A Draft By Your Windows

One of the key indicators that it’s time to invest in some quality Aladdin replacement windows is that you feel a draft when you sit next to your windows. Drafts mean there’s air coming in from the outside.

In winter, this makes it more difficult and expensive to heat, and in summer, it means that some of the energy you’re paying to cool your home is going to waste.

2. There’s a Fog Between the Window Panes

One of the more frustrating window issues is when a fog or condensation builds up between the two window panes. Not only is it impossible to reach and clean, but it’s also a sign that there’s a leak in your window, which, in turn, goes hand-in-hand with a draft.

3. It’s a Challenge to Open

Your windows should be fitted so that they are easy to open, close, and secure. If you struggle to open the look, have to use your body weight to force the window open, or find it stuck in any way, this could be a sign that the frame has swelled (often due to water damage), that your window’s internal mechanisms are broken, or there’s rust involved.

All of these issues pose safety risks, so investing in a repair or outright replacement is a must.

4. Visible Damage

Noticeable cracks, rot, or mold are all very critical signs that your window needs to be replaced. In some cases, you may be able to keep the windows themselves and get the frame and surrounding areas replaced, or you may need to redo the entire area.

A faulty or leaky roof, a clogged gutter, or a crack in your exterior could all lead to water build-up and subsequent damage.

5. You Can Easily Hear Outside

Your windows are a powerful soundproofing barrier, or at least they should be. If you can easily hear the outside like you’ve got your window open, even when you don’t, this is a good sign your windows need to be replaced.

This may be because the inert gas located between the window panes has deteriorated, or because the window wasn’t properly fitted. You’ll likely also feel a draft along the edge of the window itself.

How Long Do Windows Last?

Windows last for decades, so investing in a repair or replacement can easily extend the lifespan of your windows by up to 50+ years, with the average lifespan of most types of windows sitting around 20 years.

Add in the energy savings you’ll enjoy when you stop leaks in their tracks, and you can quickly start to see a huge cost-benefit to upgrading or replacing your windows.
